Emily Jay Nicholls

Emily Jay Nicholls has a BA in Sociology and Cultural Studies, an MA in Social Research and a PhD in Visual Sociology from Goldsmiths, University of London.

For her masters dissertation, she followed the history of HIV antibody testing and investigated the test as a potent actor in the complexities of the epidemic. Her doctoral thesis in Visual Sociology followed the making of an archive of the UK HIV/AIDS epidemic. In the thesis, she considered different forms of expertise employed in both making and researching of the archive. She is interested in Inter/Disciplinarity, Expertise, Science and Technology Studies.

Emily was awarded ‘Goldsmtihs Sociology Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement in a Taught Post-Graduate Degree 2011/12’ on her MA programme and her PhD was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
