Martin Lengwiler has extensive experience coordinating large research projects, especially as part of a consortium of the EU program FP6. As a historian of social policy, he has published widely on topics related to the historical production of knowledge, histories of health policy, and changes to social welfare programs and the nation-state in Europe. He is a professor of history at the University of Basel, and is member (and deputy director) of an independent expert committee on the history of administrative internment in the context of the Swiss welfare state history. Together with the second member of the Basel team, Dr. Bänziger, he leads a project on the Swiss gay rights movement during the period of HIV/AIDS.
